On March 19, 2020, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall for C3 Perfect Descent Auto Belay devices. An estimated 1,100 units are believed to be affected by the recall. Affected devices were manufactured between February 2017 and April 2019. What is the C3 Perfect Descent Auto Belay device?
The Perfect Descent Auto Belay devices are manufactured by C3 Manufacturing LLC. These devices are used with climbing ropes to protect climbers while climbing. They also are used to arrest a fall or while being lowered on the rope.

Which Perfect Descent Auto Belay devices are included in the recall? (Include picture(s))
Model 220 Indoor, Outdoor, Speed Drive and Direct Drive auto belay climbing devices are all included in the recall. The devices were sold in yellow and black and have “Perfect Descent” printed on the top of the devices. The recalled belay devices have the following serial number ranges printed on the bottom of the device:

Why were the Perfect Descent Auto Belay devices recalled?
The belay climbing device can loosen and cause slack on the rope, causing the climber to fall. Climbing while tethered to a malfunctioning belay can result in serious injury or death.
What do I do if I purchased a Perfect Descent Auto Belay device?
First, refrain from using the device. Next, check the serial number of your Perfect Descent Auto Belay device to determine if it was included in the recall. If it was, discontinue using the device and contact C3 Manufacturing LLC for a free repair.
