PCVA partners Darrell Cochran and Kevin Hastings are representing a 47-year-old man in a lawsuit alleging that Auburn Police Department officer Joe Michels used excessive force during a routine drunken-driving arrest. The suit was filed in U.S. District Court on behalf of Khomphet Phetsadakone who was knocked unconscious and suffered broken bones in his face while being pulled from his vehicle the night of the incident.
According to Hastings, Phetsadakone’s violent arrest is another example of a failed system of accountability in the Auburn Police Department. “Across the nation, we have seen police departments like Auburn allowing a good-old-boys culture to fester that tolerates — even encourages — police aggression and violence, most often against underrepresented or minority communities,” he said.
